Inhaling Death
I remember when I was a small child,I was with my grandmother in Tacloban City when I first saw them. Two untidy boys around the streets asking for coins, and that was the day that I become familiar with the word "street children". Unicef report estimates the number of street children in the Philippinnes to range from 75,000 to 80,00. Streetchildren suffers from hunger, they are poor helpless people living in the cold streets. With almost empty pockets and grambling stomach, it's what encourages them to buy a temporary relief named rugby. The chemical is placed in a plastic bag and these kids inhale the vapor directly from the bag to achieve the state of Euphoria. Every inhale though of the chemical can causes loss of memory, confusion or disorientation, distorted perception of vomiting and so much more. Who could judge these poor children? They have small money, they may choose Rugby over food because food can be rapidly consumed compared to the solvent. The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act 9165) does not include solvents in the list of dangerous drugs and substances. Thus is a call to revise the said act because there is an underlying danger that can result to permanent damage to the brain and may result in "sudden sniffing death".
