On September 14, 2016, The Vice President of the Philippine Republic, Hon. Maria Leonor G. Robredo visited the town of Hernani, Eastern Samar as she attended a short program at the town’s Covered Court. Being the chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), her primary purpose of visiting was to check the on-going construction of a housing project for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda located at Bgy. Canciledes of the said town.

The Vice President zealously delivered a short speech in front of an equally attentive crowd. She started it through acknowledging and thanking everyone for their support in electing her to office last May 9. She also mentioned that she was so surprised when she arrived in the town for it changed drastically since her last visit, three days after Typhoon Yolanda.

“Nandito po ako noong mga ilang taon na ang nagdaan, nagbigay kami ng school supplies sa mga estudyante. Noon, walang bubong ang gymnasium na ito. Ngayon, akalo ko mali ang napuntahan ko. Ang laki na talaga ng pinagbago! ”, she exclaims. According to her, it is so amazing to see that Hernani had improved in spite of Yolanda’s great devastations to the town.

As her speech ends, she promised the people that she is ready to lend a hand if ever they need help. After having a picture-taking with the LGU Staff, she left the town immediately for she will still have to attend a cabinet meeting with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Robredo was accompanied by the municipal mayors of Can-avid, Maydolong, Balangkayan, and Giporlos; Gil Norman Germino, Henry Afable, Allan Contado, and Mark Biong respectively.

Coincidentally, her visit fell along the said municipality’s celebration of their Vesper Day in relation to the Feast Day of the town’s patron saint, Seven Dolors.
